Prof. Dave Bakken

David Bakken (SM’89) received the B.S. degree from Washington State University (WSU), Pullman, in 1985, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Arizona, Tucson, in 1990 and 1994, respectively. He is a Professor of computer science at Washington State University, Pullman, WA, USA. Since 1999, he has devoted virtually 100% of his research time working on developing better data delivery for the bulk (wide-area) power grids, and lately also on coordination platforms to support decentralized power applications. Before 1999, he was a Research Scientist at BBN, the research lab that built the first internet (the ARPANET) in 1969 and researched the first middleware starting in 1979. The QuO middleware framework for WAN QoS and adaptation, which he is a co-inventor of, has flown in Boeing experimental aircraft, been cited closed to 2000 times, and been used in multiple DARPA programs. His research interests include wide-area middleware and dependable computing.

The presentation will be in English. We hope to see you all in this Colloquium.
